Paxman Cooling Caps

Cancer patients often endure a difficult journey when it comes to treatment, and one piece of that journey is loss of hair.

Chemotherapy and radiation therapy can both cause hair loss as chemo targets rapidly growing cells, which damages hair follicles, making the hair fall out. Radiation can cause hair loss as well depending on what part of the body is receiving radiation, according to multiple studies.

Not all people lose their hair, but it is a common side effect of fighting cancer and can be a tough thing for patients to tackle.

DCH has two Paxman Scalp Cooling machines.

The machine hooks up to a cap that goes on top of the patient’s head. From there, the Paxman helps prevent hair loss and encourages regrowth of hair that has fallen out due to chemotherapy. The Paxman is a machine they would hook up prior to the patient starting chemo.

Patients wear it during their treatments and some post-treatment. It’s to help cool down hair follicles, so that when the chemotherapy is being administered through the body, it prevents the chemotherapy from reaching the hair follicles, and it’s supposed to help reduce hair loss.”
